MARICE cooperation

The mechanisms and significance of chemical communication and defence in aquatic environments have only recently begun to attract attention. Marine chemical ecology provides vital tools for bioprospecting of novel substances, leading to new development opportunities in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and aquaculture/fisheries.

The competence within the platform is sought-after, and the platform have both commissioned projects developed on request by companies, and joint industrial projects partly financed by the Innovation support system, i.e. through VINNOVA, Innovationsbron Väst, GU Holding AB and mare novum - Centre for marine innovations in the Region of Västra Götaland.

Researchers within the platform collaborate with the Department of Medicinal Chemistry/Pharmacognosy at Uppsala University regarding identification and application of marine bioactive compounds.

Three ideas are presently under evaluation for their commercial potential.
